Evolution of life on Earth was punctuated by a series of catastrophic global events. New species arose with new abilities and strategies for survival. Archeological evidence shows that hominids arose in Africa about 9-6 million years ago from there they spread to Eurasia. Some genes of the archaic humans are still present in Homo sapiens of today, indicating interbreeding. Genetic research of Dr. Svante Paabo on ancient Neanderthal DNA will be presented.
