Social Justice
Action for Social Justice at UUCOB
ACTION FOR SOCIAL JUSTICE COMMITTEE: The Committee focuses on issues brought to the group by UUCOB members or through other sources, i.e., UUA or other UU groups. Examples of Social Justice areas include voting rights, immigration/refugee support, gun safety, LGBTQ rights and protections, juvenile justice reform, and racism. Members of the Action for Social Justice Committee aspire to enhance UUCOB’s inclusion through written information on other religions, philosophies, cultures, sexual orientation/identification and in collaboration with the Worship Committee.

YOU ARE INVITED. Action in Social Justice Committee usually meets every third Sunday at 11:50 AM
Examples of UUCOB Action in Social Justice Recent Projects:
- Coordinated a FAITH house meeting at the UUCOB and attended the FAITH Community Problem Assembly
- Held a Peace Vigil that was open to all churches
- In collaboration with the League of Women Voters and Alliance, members addressed about 1000 postcards that will be sent to returning citizens (individuals who have been convicted of felonies and have completed their conditions). The postcards provide information on how the citizens can be sure they have met their conditions.
- Exploring the feasibility of what actions could be taken to change and/or ameliorate the judicial cash bail system for local arrestees
Voting Rights
A fundamental principle of the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA) is the use of the democratic process. Unitarian Universalist congregations affirm and promote the right of conscience and the use of the democratic process within our congregations and in society at large. This is our Fifth Principle.
As an expression of our faith, many Unitarian Universalist congregations engage in voter registration, election reform issues, protecting voting rights and – Get -Out- the-Vote drives.
Here at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation Ormond Beach (UUCOB), we support voting education and promote voter registration. Our members are involved in the voting rights issues according to their own individual priorities.
To this aim we offer this Voter Readiness checklist for your consideration.
