Ellen Nielsen has lived in Ormond Beach since 2009 and has been a member of UUCOB since 2010.  She is currently the co-chair of the UUCOB Worship Committee and is actively involved in creating worship services.

Ellen spent her childhood living in or near national parks, including Everglades National Park.  This was the original source of her interest in science and natural history.  She is currently a member of the Florida Native Plant Society and the local chapter of the Audubon Society.

Before moving back to Florida, Ellen spent almost forty years living in Northern New England.  She’s also traveled in Mexico and Central America.

Ellen has enjoyed writing all her life but started focusing on poetry in the 1980s. She has recently published a collection of poems, Blue Flame, which deals with a variety of subjects, including family history, the cycle of seasons, social and environmental justice, and growing old.  At this Life-Long learning session, she will read some of her poems and talk about where she gets her ideas for writing them.
